ATP & WTA predictions

Posted by Handyman on January 11, 2010

I have not a lot of time to write down all I want so I have to be shorter. I wrote down below bets I will make

today. Analysis will be shorer than usual, please understand cause I really have no time to write more.

Dinara Safina versus Agnieszka Radwanska

Last year defending finalist Dinara Safina will surely win a set versus Agnieszka in my oppinion.

Dinara made 55-16 record last year, 27-12 on hardcourt. From 12 defeats only 4 was in 2 sets.

Agnieszka also had a nice last season with a 49-24 record, 25-14 on hardcourt. First match of the season

for both girl but I simply can not believe Dinara will lose 2-0.

Betting prediction: Dinara Safina wins at least 1 set @ 1.35

Bwin

Stake: 10

Flavia Pennetta versus Na Li

Flavia plays in a life form since last year. She opened this season in the same rythm, although she lost

versus Wickmayer in las week Auckland’s final. There she won 4 matches losing just 16 games. She

distroyed Samantha Stosur in 1st round 6:1,6:3. Na Li threw out Caroline Wozniacki returning 1 set loss

to a 2:1 victory. Still, I think Flavia is in a better form and I believe she will even win the match.

H2H is 1:1, both matches played on hardcourt back in 2006.

Betting prediction: Flavia Pennetta wins at least 1 set @ 1.25

Bwin

Stake: 10

Horacio Zeballos versus Juan Monaco

What a fantastic last season was for Horacio Zeballos. He won 5 challengers and played 1 ATP final.

2 from that 5 titles was on hardcourt where he made a 22-7 record. He didn’t play this year yet.

Monaco is a great player, I respect him, but he didn’t make a great career till now which many people

thought he would. Hard is not his favorite surface, his best results he made on claycourt.

As Horacio, Juan also didn’t play this year yet and I have no trust in him, even believe Zeballos will win

this match, but I will be careful this week because next week begins Australian Open.

Betting prediction: Horacio Zeballos wins at least 1 set @ 1.50

ATP Auckland predicitons

Posted by Handyman on January 11, 2010

ATP, Sydney, 1st Round

Julien Benneteau (FRA, 46) versus Dudi Sela (ISR, 43)

Israelian Dudi Sela played very well last week in Chennai where he won 3 matches and before being stopped from

Wawrinka in 1/2 final losing in three sets (4:6,6:2,5:7). The end of last season was really bad for him when managed to

lose seven matches in a row. But, in Chennai he confirmed that crisis is behind him and he plays great tennis again.

Dudi likes to play on hardcourts, where he achieved the best results in his career, winning 7 Challenger title on this

surface, still waiting for his 1st ATP title. His opponent, Frenchman Julien Benneteau didn’t play this year yet. He is

very solid on hardcourt surface, last year he made a 11-12 record. In his career he won 1 Challenger on Indoor hard in,

6 years ago in Andrezieux, France. Like Dudi, he also is still waiting for his 1st ATP title. In this match Frenchman is set

for a favourite and I can not find any good reason for that except he is leading 2-0 in mutual matches. Benneteau won

2:0 here in Sydney back in 2008. 7:6,6:4 and 7:5,6:1 on clay last year in Kitzbuhel. Besides that I really dont see other

reasons to set a Benneteau as favourite. Perhaps Sela can be tired but I doubt cause he had 3 days for recovery.

Julien Benneteau is a player which I not appreciate very well, player which is prone to fluctuations and I almost never

bet on him.  I believe Dudi Sela will not lose for the 3rd time in a row versus Benneteau. Still, in the absence of better

offer, I’m choosing a bet that Sela will win at least one set.

Betting prediction: Dudi Sela wins at least 1 set@ 1.45

Challenger Sao Paulo predictions

Posted by Handyman on January 5, 2010

Sao Paulo, 2nd Round

Thiago Alves (BRA, 149) 2:1 (6:1,6:7,6:1) Jorge Aguilar (CHI, 222)

After succesful predictions from 1st round of this Tournament, I decided to make one more bet from 2 nd round.

Domestic player Thiago Alves defeated his compatriot Leonardo Kirche 6:4,7:6 in 1 st round.

Thiago usually plays very well on Challengers, especially in Brasil. Last year he made a 19-11 record on hardcourt

challengers. His best result was the final in Campos do Jordao (Brasil) where he lost in 3 sets to Horacio Zeballos.

Exactly the same player defeated him here, in Sao Paulo, last year in quarter final in two tensely tie breaks.

Back in 2008, Thiago has won this Tournament. Thiago likes to play in Brasil’s and South America’s challengers,

therefore not surprising that he doesn’t have almost no results at major events. But, for tournaments like this he is a

very good player to bet on, speaking from my experience.

On the other hand will stand Jorge Aguilar from Chile. Pretty unknown player if you ask me.

In 1 st round he made a surprise and threw out Mexican Santiago Gonzalez winning 6:4,7:6.

His main court is clay, very rarely plays at hardcourt and he doesn’t have any results from hardcourt not worth

to mention. Last year he played 5 matches, won 3 and lost 2 but his opponents were even less known than him.

Aguilar played just 29% matches in last 4 your at hardcourt along 6-6 record. He is better at claycourt where he

managed a 14-5 record last year.

From my point of view Thiago Alves is a better player and should not lose this match under no circumstances.

In front of his home crowd he will be searching for  placement in quarter final. The way to there should not be

jeopardize by Jorge Aguilar.

Betting prediction: Thiago Alves to win WIN

ATP Brisbane prediction

Posted by Handyman on January 4, 2010

ATP, Brisbane, 1st Round

Bernard Tomic (AUS, 286) 0:2 (4:6,4:6) Oleksandr Dolgopolov (UKR, 131)

Bernard Tomic, 17 years old Australian player, 286. in ATP ranking get a wild card for this tournament.

He is young talent who doesn’t play major events yet, except tournaments like this in Australia.

Last year he managed 8-3 record at hardcourt winning Challenger tournament in Melbourne.

He also managed to win in 1st Round of Australian Open defeated Starace in four sets, winning all 3 sets in tie break.

He also played in Brisbane last year but he didn’t have any luck in a draw because he played versus Verdasco.

He is one of those strong servers and I’m sure we will all hear much about him in the future.

Dolgopolov is 21 year old from Ukraine, came into main draw after 2 wins in qualification, versus Sirianni and Hensel,

both in 3 sets.

Last year he played just 2 tournaments on hardcourt, at Australian Open he lost in 2nd qualification round versus

Santiago Ventura and at challenger in Tashkent he lost to Baghdatis in semi-final.

His last year record is 4-2. In past 4 years he played just 14 matches at hardcourt, winning and losing 7.

Dolgopolov usually plays at claycourt which is his main court where he played 70% matches in past 4 years.

He’s ranked 131 in ATP ranking.

This wasn’t an easy decision for me, but I took a risk and made a bet on Bernard Tomic. As I said, Dolgopolov isn’t high

top player and Tomic sure can beat him in front of home crowd.

I expect great serves from Tomic, if he be able do keep his serve during the match, I’m sure he will win the match.

Dolgopolov is set as a favourite, but I disagree with that decision and think it’s worth to try put some money on Tomic.

Betting prediction: Bernard Tomic to win @ 2.15 LOST

Pinnacle Sports

Stake: 6

Tomas Berdych (CZE, 20) 2:0 (6:2,6:4) Nick Lindahl (AUS, 251)
Well, I find out one more bet from Brisbane tournament. Though Lindahl is domestic player, difference in quality is too

big on Berdych’s side. There is no way in my oppinion that Lindahl can be a threat for Berdych.

The biggest threat for Berdych is himself cause we all know he is not very clear in his head. Unfortunatelly for him

because he is very talented player and should be achieve much better results.  Last year he managed 17-11 record at

hardcourt. His best result was 4th Round of Australian Open where he lost versus Roger Federer after 2 sets lead!

In Brisbane he lost versus Kei Nishikori in 2nd round.

Lindahl is a 100% challenger player who managed 21-18 record at hardcourt last year. At major events he tried in

Australian Open qualification but lost versus Dieter Kindlmann 6:2,6:1! Exactly the same result he repeated in US Open

qualification versus Sergei Bubka. His best performances last year was semi-final in Tiburon and final in Aptos, both

challengers, of course.  Berdych should not have any problems to grab an easy win. Handicap margin is not set too high

and Berdych can easily cover that margin. Only question is will he want to do or not. That is the reason for lower stake.

Betting prediction: Berdych to win handicap +4.5 @ 1.95 WIN

Sao Paulo Challenger Predictions

Posted by Handyman on January 4, 2010

Challenger, Sao Paulo, 1st Round

Ricardo Mello (BRA, 151) versus Gaston Gaudio (ARG, 167) 2:0 (6:1,6:4)

The tournament will be play at hard court. This is the main reason I decided to bet on.

Ricardo Mello is domestic player, 29 years old, left-handed, who has very solid results on hard court unlike Gaudio.

Mello has won 10 Challengers plus 1 ATP Tournament  in his career, 10 from that 11 titles he won on hard court and 9

from all 11 won tournaments he won at Brasil soi. He is defending champion from last year when he won this

Tournament without losing a set. Later in past season he won another Tournament at hard court, also in Brasil, in

Capital Brasilia. He’s a classic challenger player. Last season he made 35-18 record of which 18-7 at hard court.

Gaudio, 31 year old on the other hand is a classic clay court player. Former Rolland Garros Champion has won 10

Tournaments in his career, all 10 on clay court. Last one last year after 4 years of waiting.

In past 3 years he played just 6 matches on hard court and won just 1, back in 2007.

Last year he played only 2 matches on hard court and lost it both against Korolev and Reister.

All in all, I believe Ricardo Mello will win this match. As I said earlier he get along much better with hard court than

his opponent. He is a left-handed player who has very strong serve.  Plus, he plays in fornt of home crowd and he

defends the title here. Gaudio will have to wait for clay court part of the season to manage some quality result.

I doubt he is capable to win versus Mello at hard court in Sao Paulo.

Betting prediction: Ricardo Mello to win @ 1.60 Bet-at-home Stake: 8 WIN

Julio Silva (BRA, 165) versus Alejandro Gonzalez (COL, 249) 2:0 (6:2,6:3)

Another match from Sao Paulo challenger seems to be a very good bet. Home player Julio Silva

plays a lot on hard court in Brasil. Last year he managed 7-1 record at 3 Brasil challengers which he has

played. He won Challenger in Belo Horizonte. Colombian guy is 10 years younger from Silva, and he is a

classic clay court player who plays on hard court just occasionally. Last season  he managed 3-4 record on

hard court. His record on clay court, 7-15 in last 2 years says enough how quality player he is.

Julio Silva has to win this match against much weaker opponent and I have no doubt that will happen.

Betting prediction: Julio Silva to win @ 1.40 Bet-at-home Stake: 10 WIN

ATP Chennai

Michael Berrer (GER, 74) versus Santiago ventura (ESP, 109) 2:0 (6:3,6:2)

In the 1st Round of India tournament in Chennai German Michael Berrer is my bet in the match versus Ventura. Michael Berrer had great end of the last season winning 2 challengers at indoor hard surfaces, in Bratislava and Salzburg. Last season he made a 14-13 record at hardcourt, of which 2-4 record on major events.

Larger part of last season he played at Challengers because he was out of Top 100. His best results were 2nd Round of Australian Open and Indian Wells where he managed to pass qualification, as well in US Open but there he lost in 1st Round. He is a solid player, without oustanding results in major events, but very good Challenger player.

In his career he won 7 challengers, all 7 in hall. He is a left-handed player.

On the other hand, we have Spanish guy Santiago Ventura, very similar to Berrer with the difference that he’s a classic clay court player. In past 4 seasons Ventura played 94% of his matches on clay court and just 5% on hard court.

Last season he played just 5 matches on hard court, winning 2 and losing 3. H2H is 1-0 for Ventura, back in 2005  he won in Freudenstadt on court clay of course. I’m not sure why he even play here considering his performances on hard court. It should be better for him to prepare itself for clay court season.

Betting prediction: Michael Berrer to win @ 1.36 Ladbrokes Stake: 10 WIN

ATP Brisbane

Carsten Ball (AUS, 134) versus Mischa Zverev (GER, 78) 2:0 (7:5,6:1)

This is a match between two left-handed players. German Mischa Zverev is set to be a favourite in the match but I disagree and I think Australaian has nice chances to win the match. Carsten Ball played 31 match last year on hardcourt and he made a 18-13 record. If we count only major events such as ATP and Grand Slam tournaments he made a 5-3 record. His best tournament  last season was ATP tournament in Los Angeles where he from qualification arrived to the Final and lost 6:1 in the 3rd set against Sam Querrey. At the US Open he also passed qualification, then beat Brzezcicki in 1st round and after that lost against Djokovic in three sets. Hardcourt is his main court and I believe he can make good result here in Brisbane.

Mischa Zverev had a catastrophic last season. Especially at hardcourt where he made a 4-12 record, 1-10 on major events level! His only win last season at hardcourt was in Delray Beach where he managed to beat Taylor Dent in 1st Round! After hat he lost 9 consecutive major events matches.

In my point of view he can not be a favourite in this match. Carsten Ball will play in fornt of home crowd, that could be a motive more for him to make a win. Odds are great on Ball’s victory and I’ll take it with bot hands. Still, it’s beginning of the season so shold be careful.

Betting prediction: Carsten Ball to win @ 2.50 Ladbrokes stake: 6 WIN
